How to build dashboard from excel

New, Do-It-Yourself Personal BI Tool Makes BI For the Masses a Reality

Sisense No Comments »

Netanya, Israel — May 8, 2008

SiSense has developed Prism, an all inclusive Business Intelligence (BI) software that enables users, novices as well as professionals to build instant visual, actionable and interactive BI applications within minutes and without BI infrastructure and programming knowledge.

Prism connects easily to various data sources like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, OLAP, Excel etc. and converts the tabular form of the database into a multidimensional model that simulates an OLAP structure but without the necessity to build and process OLAP cubes thus providing the OLAP advantages to regular relational databases users.

The software enables simultaneous data retrieval from various data sources and the creation of dynamic dashboards, ad-hoc analytics, reports, complicated multidimensional filters and formulas, yet without single line of programming. Just Drag-n-Drop.

Working with Prism is very simple and any typical Excel user can easily create advanced applications that can be updated in real-time over his or her data sources.

The deployment is immediate – download, install and use – and there is no need for a dedicated server.

Documents created by Prism can be distributed via a Prism Viewer which enables the recipients of the documents to further analyze the data embedded in the document according to the permissions given to them by the author of the document. Comparing the Prism Viewer to a PDF Reader, the PDF reader is static and a table or chart embedded within it cannot be changed by the reader. In contrast, data distributed in a Prism document can be read and further drilled or modified by the reader. In addition, Prism documents can also contain connectivity settings for the source data, allowing the documents to be refreshed in real-time directly from the reader’s computer.

The ability to create dynamic documents makes Prism an ideal tool for presenting information to executives or others. PDF documents or PowerPoint presentations present static charts or tables, and when a member of the audience asks for clarification or root figures for that chart/table, the presenter will have to either break the presentation looking for information in the background or email the clarification later on. With Prism, this is done on the fly from within the document itself.

Prism documents can be either directly emailed or shared through the SiSense web site.

Prism makes it possible to shorten the creation of BI applications from many months to a few hours and at a fraction of the cost of traditional BI solutions. It takes minutes to build a simple application, to hours for a complicated one which means that information consumers can change their analytics or reporting requirement almost on the fly and yet independently of their IT personnel availability.

Prism as a personal BI tool, enables information consumers to build their information views in the way they need when they need it.

In organizations which already deploy BI platforms, the use of Prism can dramatically enlarge the circle of BI users and bring it down the line to everybody who needs information to improve their and consequently the organization’s productivity and efficiency.

Organizations which, for any reason, do not have a BI infrastructure can immediately get BI power by deploying Prism at a price of a typical Web 2.0 application.

A beta version of Prism can be downloaded from http://www.sisense.com

SiSense Adds Google Spreadsheets Support to its Business Intelligence Software

Sisense No Comments »

Netanya, Israel — August 5, 2008

SiSense Ltd, a company that provides business intelligence software to enable the analysis and visualization of data, today launched support for Google spreadsheets as a data source. The software is available as a free download at http://www.sisense.com.

With this latest release, enterprise level business intelligence can be performed on any data stored or shared in Google spreadsheets. “This adds to our support of SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Excel and SQL Analysis Services” said Eldad Farkash, SiSense co-founder and CEO “our vision is to bring business intelligence everywhere, to everyone. The way to do so is to allow anyone to directly query the data, so no additional IT effort is required to prepare the data for analysis”.

“No other solution on the market enables complex-yet-easy business intelligence on Google spreadsheets data” commented Elad Israeli, co-founder and VP R&D. Israeli said that for a small business that stored sales data on Google spreadsheets, Business Intelligence basics such as “10 best selling products” “top sales regions” required moving the data to SQL or complex scripting and OLAP creation. Multi-dimensional formulas were impossible. “Current solutions, even if they are easy to use, don’t go much farther than a simple pivot table or a chart” commented Israeli “but pervasive business intelligence means much more than that”.

This delivers on SiSense’s vision of bringing business intelligence everywhere, to everyone. SiSense’s solution requires no programming or OLAP, and no dedicated IT infrastructure, yet it allows ease of use (using drag-and-drop) and the ability to benefit from the same sophisticated analysis and insights. SiSense accomplishes this by using its unique technology which automatically builds a multidimensional model that simulates an OLAP cube, using an in-memory database. Recently, SiSense announced a dashboard that takes Amazon Web Service S3 data and presents users with the ability to chart, analyze and optimize their S3 use.

“One of the key advantages of Google spreadsheets is the ability to build a collaborative spreadsheet. SiSense now takes this ability and adds to it operational business intelligence within a wrokgroup” said Farkash.

SiSense is in public beta and offers its software free of charge. Once the company is out of beta, it will announce pricing for its software.

About SiSense

SiSense provides common sense business intelligence software that assists in visualization, analysis, dashboarding and reporting. SiSense uses a unique in-memory database that allows for complex analytics without building a middle tier for the data, so no scripting, programming or IT efforts are required. This leaves the data at the original data source and the analysis at the desktop, where SiSense is installed. SiSense connects to many data sources (Excel, Google spreadsheets, MySQL, SQL server, Oracle, csv and OLAP) and allows analysis and reporting as deep as if there existed an OLAP cube, or one were to be created on the fly. Building a Dashboard takes less than 5 minutes, there is no scripting or programming. Read more in the SiSense Blog and try the service for free for yourself here.

Netanya, Israel — July 16, 2008

SiSense Ltd, a company that provides business intelligence software to enable the analysis and visualization of data, today announced a new release that adds support for csv and excel 2007 files. This new beta release is available as a free download at http://www.sisense.com.

This latest release adds csv,Access 2007 and excel 2007 to the data sources already supported by SiSense: SQL, MySQL, Oracle, excel 2003 and SQL Analysis Services. This delivers on SiSense’s vision of bringing business intelligence everywhere, to everyone. SiSense’s solution requires no programming or OLAP, and no dedicated IT infrastructure, yet it allows ease of use (using drag and drop) and the same sophisticated analysis and insights. SiSense accomplishes this by using its unique technology which automatically builds a multidimensional model that simulates an OLAP cube. SiSense recently launched a private beta of an Amazon S3 Analysis Dashboard based on its SiSense Product.

“We want to make business intelligence accessible to everyone. Small and mid sized business are inundated by data but visualizing and analyzing it requires too much resources. It requires programming expertise and dedicated IT infrastructure” said Eldad Farkash, SiSense’s CEO and Co-Founder. “We’ve decided to make business intelligence, which is a very important tool, much easier to master, purchase and operate, for everyone” he said.

The release extends the ability of the software to serve any excel user by enabling them to easily create advanced applications that deliver insight in real time. Charts and pivot tables created by SiSense can be easily be used by business users to show and analyze data, with considerably less labor. An effective business intelligence practice can thus be created in hours, rather than months. Additional features in the release are:

    A new search widget
A new action widget that exports the widget’s underlying data to excel
    A new look & feel

“Our product has been in beta for the last several months, and we are focused on adding functionality that allows analysis of any data, regardless of its format”, said Farkash “adding csv and Excel 2007 brings us much closer to this mark”.
