Updata Partners Names Carter Griffin General Partner

Reston, VA — January 28, 2010

Updata Partners is pleased to announce the appointment of Carter Griffin as General Partner. During his five-year tenure with the firm, Carter has proven to be a significant contributor to the success of Updata, a leading growth equity investor in the IT and Interactive Media markets. With his appointment, Updata now has six General Partners investing and managing three active venture funds, which total nearly $ 500 million.

Carter joined Updata Partners following the successful sale of Brivo Systems, a SaaS security firm he co-founded. Growing the company, securing venture financing and executing the eventual sale of Brivo provided the ideal background to identify, invest and guide the growth-stage firms in which Updata invests. Earlier in his career, Carter was a partner with Kaiser Associates, a strategic consulting firm serving the Fortune 500, and was an international financial analyst with Coca-Cola based in London. He graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds an MBA from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

“Carter has the experience and skills to work with technology CEOs in rapidly growing firms,” said John Burton, Managing General Partner of Updata Partners. “Our differentiation is in our ability to relate to the challenges of our CEOs and provide valuable input from our similar experience; our companies find Carter a great benefit to their operational and strategic efforts.”

Carter has led Updata Partners’ investments in iContact, Alert Logic, LogiXML and Bradford Networks and serves on the Board of Directors of each.

About Updata Partners:

Based in Reston, Virginia and Edison, New Jersey, Updata Partners is a leading venture capital firm that invests in growth stage information technology companies with innovative intellectual property enabling market-leading products and services. Led by an investment team averaging more than 20 years of operational and private equity experience in the technology industry, we seek investments where the combination of our financial backing and operating expertise will accelerate growth. With nearly $ 500 million under management, the firm also selectively provides recapitalization and management buyout financing.

Updata Partners Announces Promotions

Reston, VA (Vocus) February 4, 2008

Updata Partners, a leading, growth stage venture capital firm investing in the information technology industry, announced today the promotions of Rich Erickson to General Partner and Carter Griffin to Partner. These positions were made effective with the closing of the firm’s latest fund, Updata Partners IV L.P., of $ 223 million. As former IT industry entrepreneurs and CEOs, Erickson and Griffin advance Updata’s strategy of being an active, value-added investor to the firm’s portfolio of rapidly growing, market-leading information technology companies.

“Rich’s experience as a CEO of a publicly-traded company as well as in growing and exiting companies through M&A and Carter’s combination of operational, entrepreneurial and financial experience fit exceedingly well with our strategy of providing hands-on assistance to our portfolio companies,” said John Burton, Managing General Partner at Updata Partners. “They have both successfully transitioned to the role of value-added investors, facilitating the objectives of our companies and sourcing new investments in rapidly growing, market-leading firms.”

Erickson is based in Updata’s Edison, New Jersey office and sits on the boards of directors of Updata portfolio companies, Acclaris, HotGigs, Interactions and Red Vision. He joined Updata in 2004, bringing more than 20 years of executive experience in the IT industry. As President and CEO of AlphaNet Solutions Inc., Erickson drove the restructuring and sale of the publicly-held IT outsourcing company to CIBER. Prior to this, he led a similar effort at iXL, an Internet application consulting firm, in its public-to-public company merger with Scient. From 1987 until 1997, as one of two principals of Digital Network Associates (DNA), a private network and systems integrator, he guided the growth of the company through its ultimate sale United States Office Products (USOP). Erickson started his career at Excelan, one of the TCP/IP Internet network pioneers. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Villanova University.

Griffin is based in Updata’s Reston, Virginia office and sits on the boards of directors of Updata portfolio companies, CMWare, iContact, LogiXML and Nimaya. Griffin joined Updata in December of 2005 as former Chairman and CEO of Brivo Systems, a security software company that was sold to Duchossois Enterprises Group. During his tenure at Brivo, he raised over $ 30 million in multiple rounds of equity and debt financing from venture capitalists, strategic partners and angel investors. Prior to Brivo Griffin spent four years as a senior vice president at strategic consulting firm Kaiser Associates. Earlier in his career, he worked in London for the Coca-Cola Company and held positions at American Management Systems and Arthur Andersen. Griffin holds an M.B.A. from the J.L. Logi Connector Pack Links Salesforce.Com® Data to Logi 8 Web-Based Business Intelligence Platform via New Web Services API

McLean, VA — June 28, 2007

LogiXML (http://www.logixml.com) today announced the availability of the Logi Connector Pack, a software package that integrates data generated from popular Web-based applications and sources. The initial release of the Logi Connector Pack supports integration of data from Salesforce.com® applications with the Logi 8 Business Intelligence platform. The Logi Connector Pack uses advanced Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) techniques and standards-based Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to create connections to Web-based data sources.

Salesforce.com was chosen as the first “connector” because it is one of the most popular data sources among Logi users. Salesforce.com Web deployment offers a robust API that supports a service-oriented approach to connectivity. The Logi Connector Pack for Salesforce.com allows a company to easily obtain comprehensive visibility into sales, marketing, and support operations, bringing greater detail and more sophisticated analysis to the wealth of Salesforce.com data.

“This is another great example of how LogiXML makes reporting and analysis easy and accessible. The Logi Connector Pack makes it easy to integrate Salesforce.com data with your other data such as sales and inventory records,” said John Kyle, VP of Marketing at LogiXML. “Now, using the Logi 8 platform and the Logi Connector Pack, you have the ability to view your entire business operation in a single dashboard.”

Salesforce.com has demonstrated leadership in on-demand customer relationship management (CRM). The service empowers customers by delivering innovative technology that makes it as easy as possible to share and manage business information. Their solutions combine award-winning functionality, proven integration, point-and-click customization, and an outstanding user experience, which are all in sync with the Logi 8 approach to business intelligence applications.

“Salesforce.com is a great application for Hines, but we recognized that the value of the data is dramatically extended by leveraging it with our Logi 8 business intelligence applications,” notes Jo Raney, Data Integration Programmer at Hines Real Estate Securities, Inc., a large privately owned, international real estate firm based in Houston, Texas. “The new Logi Connector Pack makes the integration process simple to implement.”

According to Tim Henthorn, Vice President of Product Development and R&D at TIG Global (http://www.TIGglobal.com), a full-service online hospitality marketing firm in Washington, DC, “Integrating data from multiple sources can be a real challenge. The Logi Connector pack allows us to integrate disparate data elements into our Revenue Performance Metrics (RPM) dashboard. RPM combines Salesforce.com data with our customers’ performance data from across the Web and enables our clients to see a true picture of their marketing success.”

Salesforce.com is a registered trademark of Salesforce.com, Inc.

LogiXML Ranks No. 373 on the 2008 Inc. 500

McLean, VA — September 7, 2008

Inc. magazine today ranked LogiXML No. 373 on its 27th annual Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. The list is the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy — America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs. Companies such as Zappos, Intuit, GoDaddy, Under Armour, Jamba Juice, American Apparel, Oracle and hundreds of other powerhouses gained early exposure as members of the Inc. 500.

“If you want to find out which companies are going to change the world, look at the Inc. 500,” said Inc. Editor Jane Berentson. “These are the most innovative, dynamic, fast-growing companies in the nation — the ones coming up with solutions to some of our knottiest problems, creating systems that let us conduct business faster and easier, and manufacturing products we soon discover we can’t live without. The Inc. 500 list is Inc. magazine’s tribute to American business ingenuity and ambition.”

LogiXML provides a compelling alternative to traditional business intelligence offerings that are very expensive and time consuming to implement. Logi 9, the company’s most current version, offers a comprehensive platform that addresses all key areas of BI – managed reporting, ad hoc reporting, analysis and data services. Their truly-unified, purely Web-based technology enables more organizations and more users within those organizations to implement BI solutions with low upfront risk and time investment. Founded in 2000 by Arman Eshraghi, LogiXML began distributing its BI products in 2003.

The 2008 Inc. 500, as revealed in the September issue of Inc. magazine (on newsstands August 26 — September 30), reported aggregate revenue of $ 13.7 billion and median three-year growth of 1,046%. Total sales for Inc. 500 companies were 14 percent below last year’s combined revenue of $ 16 billion; still, it was a stellar year for many companies. Not only did sales for this year’s top 50 growers outstrip those of last year’s top 50 by $ 541 million, but this year’s fastest 50 also boasted a staggering 47 percent jump in average three-year growth from last year’s top of the class. Additionally, the 2008 Inc. 500 companies were engines of job growth, having created more than 51,414 jobs since those companies were founded.

Complete information on this year’s Inc. 500, including company profiles and a list of the fastest-growing companies that can be sorted by industry and region can be found at http://www.inc5000.com.

The Lone Star state is second only to California and ties Southern California by adding five more companies. The Austin metro area is Texas’s hottest, with 7.5 Inc. 500 companies per million residents.

Georgia jumped from eighth last year to third with 31 businesses on the list (up from 20 last year). Georgia also benefits from the port of Savannah, the country’s fastest-growing container terminal. New York comes in fourth with 29 companies on the list, followed by Illinois and Virginia tied for fifth, both with 27 Inc. 500 companies.

LogiXML Redefines Managed Reporting Via New LGX Info Flex Edition for Dynamic Analysis

LogiXML Redefines Managed Reporting Via New LGX Info Flex Edition for Dynamic Analysis

McLean, VA — September 21, 2005

LogiXML, Inc (http://www.logixml.com) today announces its new LGX Info Flex Edition that redefines managed reporting by adding powerful end user analysis capabilities to its proven managed reporting products. The LGX Info Flex Edition offers IT managers the ability to extend dynamic analytic capabilities to their users via the new Analysis Grid feature while maintaining efficient management control of the query definition and report processing.

The LGX Info Flex Edition fills an unmet need that both BI developers and business users have identified for some time. Developers can define and code an Analysis Grid in a matter of minutes. Then the users are able to dynamically compare, contrast and analyze the business data provided in their managed reporting applications.

The new Analysis Grid features allow users to interactively move beyond the limitations of pre-defined reports into a true analytical system. Users can massage the managed report and add data filters, add/remove/move columns, group data, aggregate data, or create charts on the fly to present and clarify their analysis.

“The LGX Info Flex Edition is a breakthrough product that raises that bar for managed reporting by offering end users – not just a few parameters to manipulate within a canned report — but a truly dynamic environment for high value analysis of data resulting from a managed query,” notes Arman Eshraghi, LogiXML CEO.

“Our growing customer base of corporate end-users, ISVs and ASPs have challenged us to address these issues and the LGX Info Flex Edition responds directly to those needs. Our initial feedback has been outstanding with reports of Analysis Grids being created in less than five minutes in ten lines of code and end users delighted with the ability to flexibly analyze the data.”

Companies are gaining a renewed recognition of the value of reporting, and managed reporting particular, in the overall Business Intelligence infrastructure of a company, often described as Information Applications. Feedback from LGX Info users made clear the desire of IT managers to offer their end users more tools for manipulating data within in the context of the managed reporting tool itself, which has resulted in a number of new capabilities in the Flex Edition.

Additional features in LGX Info Flex Edition include a new MS Excel Template element allows users to open an “empty” Excel document as a template and fill in the data from any data source. The template Excel document may contain formulas, charts, multiple pages, etc.

LGX Info Flex Edition fills in the data rows and columns, populating the complete spreadsheet that is delivered to the end user – ideal for business analysts. Also a new MS Word Export element is included that runs on the server addressing the problems of reliability, accuracy, style, and size as well as a new tree view element that supports building expandable/collapsible tree views from any data source.

LGX Info Flex Edition is built on XML technology, supports major databases including Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, Cache and MySQL and can be deployed across any .NET architecture.

Global Survey: Business Intelligence Professionals Prefer Corporate-Wide Implementation; Steep Price Tags Stall Universal Adoption

Birmingham, AL; McLean, VA — July 9, 2007

A new survey of business intelligence (BI) professionals worldwide reveals that while they overwhelmingly believe that their companies can benefit from the insights BI provides, the perceived high costs of implementing a BI system have prevented more than two-thirds of them from doing so throughout their firms.

A majority of survey respondents also believe that corporate-wide implementation of BI systems supports the opportunity for greater insight and wider access. They said it delivers increased value over department-level BI, even though the latter may cost less and provide a more targeted focus to specific information.

The survey was conducted last month on behalf of Teksouth Corporation (http://www.teksouth.com), a veteran provider of data management and analysis systems, and LogiXML (http://www.logixml.com), the leader in interactive, Web-based business intelligence. More than 250 responses were received from around the world, from companies ranging from Global 100 to mid-sized enterprises.

Key findings from the survey include:

89 percent favor a “BI on-demand” approach, where workers can ask the questions they want instead of relying on pre-formed queries;
58 percent feel that any knowledge worker should have access to business intelligence tools;
43 percent perceive the cost of implementing corporate-wide BI as “prohibitive;” and
30 percent want a BI solution, but are waiting for costs to drop before implementing one.

“These findings confirm what we hear in the field quite often,” said Steve Wilsher, Teksouth’s Chief Executive Officer. “Based on past experience, potential customers perceive that BI systems are hugely expensive to install and maintain. Teksouth and LogiXML have devised a new approach, combining advanced BI tools that provide comprehensive functionality, with a fixed-price approach that helps firms minimize and quantify the costs of implementation, as well as accurately projecting the return on their investment.”

Companies like Teksouth and LogiXML have implemented solution-based offerings that are designed to integrate and produce superior results at reduced cost, such as Teksouth’s EntelliCache™ ad hoc query acceleration software and the LogiXML Logi 8™ BI reporting and analysis platform.

“The survey results reflect a substantial difference in ‘perception versus reality’ in the BI market,” said Arman Eshraghi, LogiXML’s founder and CEO. “What survey respondents clearly want is affordable, corporate-level business intelligence, and they want it available right now. Firms like Teksouth and LogiXML are achieving these results for customers today.”

Other findings from the survey are:

Fewer than 40 percent have BI deployed. More than 37 percent of respondents said they either have company-wide BI functionality deployed, or will have it deployed within a year. An additional 39 percent said it is on the drawing board, with no firm timetable scheduled;
75 percent believe blending strategic and tactical works best. By a margin of almost two to one, respondents believe BI should address both strategic and tactical objectives, even if it means designing and implementing a larger (and more costly) system at their firm; and
63 percent say BI is underappreciated. While business intelligence professionals may understand its advantages, they may not be successfully communicating its benefits within their companies. More than 63 percent said some people at their firms do not understand or appreciate its value. In addition, almost 40 percent said they have no budget for BI projects scheduled for 2008.

A complimentary copy of the survey summary is available for download from http://www.teksouth.com/survey and http://www.logixml.com/survey.

LogiXML, Inc. (http://www.logixml.com), the fast-growing leader in interactive, Web-based Business Intelligence, today announced a major upgrade to the entire Logi 8 Business Intelligence Platform. This newest Version of the Logi 8 platform helps organizations extend BI value to more users by adding Enterprise Search capabilities via the new Logi Intelligence Server and delivers new tools for developers to add unique, Web 2.0-style BI features like Text Clouds to reports. Version 8.2 of the Logi 8 BI Platform is available now from http://www.logixml.com.

“We have set high expectations with our growing customer base to deliver significant value with each major upgrade, and Version 8.2 affirms that commitment in two significant ways,” said LogiXML Founder and CEO, Arman Eshraghi. “First, our standards-based approach has allowed us to quickly incorporate Web 2.0 usability features and search capabilities that can be seamlessly integrated with existing BI applications. Second, by adding the new Intelligence Server to the Logi 8 platform, we now offer the ability to conduct deeper and more valuable analyses using innovations like our unique historical data analysis feature, which we call the ‘Time Machine.”

The Logi 8 Platform Version 8.2 offers interactive reporting and analysis features across the LogiXML platform, providing users with even more power to improve decision-making. Key new features include:

Logi Intelligence Server for enterprise search and historical data analysis
Internationalization of Logi Ad Hoc, serving users in new languages
Logi Web Studio, full-featured, yet light-weight Web-based report editor
Text Clouds for enhanced visualization

Enterprise Search. Logi 8 is the first BI vendor to offer powerful, Web-based enterprise search capabilities integrated into user reports. A feature of the new Logi Intelligence Server, Enterprise Search, allows BI users to find information across the enterprise via a direct text search of the underlying data. Enterprise Search conforms to the Logi security model so server administrators maintain full control over data and user security, easily defining the data tables and data elements that are searchable for users.

Historical Analysis “Time Machine.” The new Logi Intelligence Server also includes a unique historical data capture capability that easily integrates with Logi Info to help users create valuable trend reports. The exclusive ‘Time Machine’ element allows users to easily capture a snapshot of data on a scheduled basis and then archive and compare that data over time, compare historical data and calculations, enable automated alerts or processes for exceptions in the data, and create trend reports.

Internationalization Support. Logi 8 is now being used in 77 countries. To meet the needs of increasingly global customers, the latest release of the Logi Ad Hoc user interface (UI) is now fully internationalized; text, buttons, and other parts of the UI can be easily and readily translated to other languages using resource files external to the source code.

Browser-based Developer Studio. A key upgrade in Version 8.2 of Logi Info is the new Logi Web Studio, which offers increased mobility and developer productivity in editing reports. This convenient, Web-based report definition editor is accessible in any standard Web browser for developers to change reports anytime, anywhere. This tool is zero-footprint and offers greater flexibility for report maintenance and for using non-Windows platforms like Linux/UNIX and Apple.

Web 2.0 Style Visualization. The Version 8.2 release extends unique, Web 2.0-style visualization features to reports with Text Clouds. A Text Cloud is a visual depiction (using font size and color) of the relative weighting of words, links, and phrases. Words or phrases can be easily set up as links, enabling further drill down into detailed data.

Availability. The Logi 8 BI Platform Version 8.2 is available now. Product information, download and requests for live Web-based demos can be accessed at http://www.logixml.com.

New Version of LGX Managed Reporting Products Feature Powerful Plug-Ins and Visualization Options

McLean, VA — September 11, 2006

LogiXML, Inc. (http://www.logixml.com) today introduced a new version of the company’s three managed reporting products for business intelligence applications — LGX Report, LGX Report Plus and LGX Info. LGX Report is available free of charge at the http://www.freereporting.com Website.

LogiXML has found that business intelligence users are always looking for more visually interesting reports and thus IT departments are always looking for ways to satisfy users by making reports more visually compelling. The new version of LogiXML’s managed reporting products delivers two powerful additions that will help both users and IT staff — Gantt Charts for all products and Animated Flash Charts for LGX Info users — to help satisfy this demand.

Similarly, developers look for more ways to extend the capabilities of managed reporting applications. The enhanced LogiXML plug-in elements offer an effective means for developers to incorporate additional functionality into their reports, which they can extend with their own code to help meet user needs.

Plug-in elements make reports extensible by allowing developers to dynamically modify a report definition before the report is run. Plug-ins have been previously available for LGX Report Plus and LGX Info and are now available for the free LGX Report. In addition, by enabling developers to change the HTML and the data before sending the report back to report users has enhanced the plug-in element itself overall. Sample plug-ins are also included to help developers jump-start the process of adding them to existing reports.

For LGX Info, a variety of Animated Flash Charts are now supported to add a new level of visual interest to managed reports. When implemented in conjunction with the recent AJAX enhancements, developers can now deliver a truly dynamic user experience in reports. Gantt Charts have also been added to LGX Report, LGX Report Plus and LGX Info. Gantt charts are a popular type of bar chart that presents a history of tasks or activities as they have occurred over time. Gantt charts are particularly valuable for tracking resource usage and the status of projects.

“Our users are always pushing the limits of visual presentation and processing flexibility in their BI reports,” notes LogiXML’s VP of Development, Dave Ploger. “We are committed to providing as much capability in these two areas as users can handle with these new features in our managed reporting products.”
